you missed the mark on this by not including Governor’s Major label debut “King Of Pain” or Aloe Blacc’s “Shine Through.” Both wonderful albums that deserve to be on this list. Comment by thomas williams from phillie — December 22, 2006 @ 10:02 am Cut ma boy some slack, son. At least he gettin’ paid - all you can do is criticize his pickin the top 10? get a life. Comment by Mos Def from in a van down by the river — December 24, 2006 @ 9:09 pm The lack of Aloe Blacc surprised me, too, Thomas. I was expecting to see him at the top. I’m aghast. Otherwise, a half-way decent summary of the year in R&B. But, come on, Mike. Doesn’t Stones Throw give away promos? Comment by Ben Perry from Berlin — January 18, 2007 @ 9:52 pm PopMatters sponsor

found it interesting that Mariah Carey wasn’t even considered as even a small part of the transitional relevance of R&B that is being discussed in the opening paragraph.... To this journalist, John Legend opened 2005 and then supposedly carried the year to cap off with Mary J.’s Breakthrough… hardly. Mariah and Jermaine Dupri both deserve at least a mention towards the credit for R&B’s dominance right now...I really don’t understand Legend’s hype anyway…
Mariah also will be dropping another album in 07…
