Football Factory, Greek Style[9 January 2007] by Michael PaterakisA look inside a typical European derby, where hooliganism acts as a form of support.
great article, enjoyed reading it mate. as a leeds fan from yorkshire, england - it was a reminder that football right across the globe stirs up the same feelings and failings in people. maybe people don’t really get it in america but where i’m from and where i grew up, it’s not hard to swept along in the moment..you feel more alive than ever but don’t really understand why and it’s hard to reconcile that you have even a hint of a thing in common with the many morons on the terrace chanting and confronting.. it’s a funny old game.. A very very good piece of work my greek friend, im a supporter of panathinaikos (just for the record) but all the things you are saying are correct. I ‘ll have to read the books mentioned as well i think. Football should be about supporting - enjoying - celebrating and sometimes could act as a “release the pressure” act but having in mind respect the others no matter bellievs, color or race.
And one other thing better football = better “product” = less argument = more pleasure = less violence.
