'El Cantante' follows life, music of Puerto Rican superstarPopWire: News, Reviews and CommentaryEl CantanteDirector: Leon IchasoCast: Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Federico Castelluccio, Romi Dias, Vincent Laresca(Picturehouse, 2006) Rated: R US DVD release date: 30 October 2007 (New LIne) The movie was AWESOME! The music made you want to get up and dance. The story was sad, but realistic. A definite must see! Comment by Millie C from Yonkers, N.Y — August 6, 2007 @ 4:47 pm REGARDLESS OF WHAT EVER FAULTS PEOPLE MAY FIND WITH THE MOVIE, I STILL FEEL THAT JEN N MARC DID A TERRIFIC JOB. I MEAN WHO`S TO SAY WHAT WAS TRUE AND WAS NOT. NONE OF US WERE THERE N IN REALITY YOU COULD ONLY PUT IN THE MOVIE WHAT YOU HEARD FROM OTHER PEOPLE, EXCEPT OF COURSE THE ONES THAT WERE THERE WITH HIM AND LIVE TROUGH IT. HIS FATHER N SISTER MAYBE COULD`VE BEEN A LITTLE HARDER ON HIM TO HELP HIM. BUT THEN AGAIN WE`RE TALKING HEROIN HARD HABIT TO BREAK AND A LOT OF IGNORANCE..... NO ONE TO REALLY HAVE A SIT DOWN WITH HIM. WELL I`M SURE HE`S IN A BETTER PLACE NOW. REST IN PEACE JUAN PEREZ Comment by DARLENE ORTIZ from BROOKLYN,NEW YORK — August 8, 2007 @ 7:23 am The move was great! Empasizing his drug habit was great in my opinion. We all knew how great he was and how much talent he had but we didn’t know that deep down inside he was a vey unhappy person. Even though I was born in 78’, I grew up listening to his music because of my mother. He was her favorite salsa singer and that’s all I remember listening to. I now understand his lyrics. Comment by kissy casiano from ocean township nj — August 16, 2007 @ 8:01 pm PopMatters sponsor I feel the movie focused more on his drug addition than the real person. More should have been told about how he was to his kids, family, friends and fans. I thought they should have cover more of his early years as a person. They never memtion about him having to jump out a 2nd floor apartment because of a fire. The tragic death of his mother-in-law. How Pucci was not right for him and tried to destroy his relationship with his first son and wife Carmen. Too much Pucci for me, of course it was J-Lo that played the part. Like Willie Colon said half of the stuff she said in the movie she wasn’t even around when it happened. The man had a tragic life she he was very young. But nothing about that in the movie either. I met Hector in St. Edwards hall in the 1975 and took a photo with him which I treasure with my life. He was the best of the best. RIP Hector Juan Perez. Comment by Jose Rubero from Philadelphia — August 24, 2007 @ 11:51 am I loved the movie. The acting was great. I’ve talked about it with my father. He lives in New York which is my hometown and he tells me that unfortunately Lavoe was into drugs. He also has commented that he was a talented man. Now I know somewhat of the person you hear and dance to in parties. I’ve actually catch myself singing his songs. GREAT WORK. Review: El CantanteJosh Timmermann30.Oct.07 Every bit the camp classic that Gigli was supposed to be. El Cantante is nothing if not a generously budgeted, extended music video.
Review: El CantanteBill Gibron04.Aug.07 Jennifer Lopez is the new Barbra Streisand. No, old Butta Babs can still act and sing rings around this entertainment wannabe. No, where J-Lo matches the Oscar winning diva is in the oversized ego department.
