There will be confusion: Deliberately vague films leave critic coldPopWire: News, Reviews and CommentaryNo Country for Old MenDirector: Ethan Coen, Joel CoenCast: Tommy Lee Jones, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Kelly Macdonald, Woody Harrelson, ,(Miramax, 2007) Rated: R US theatrical release date: 9 November 2007 (Limited release) UK theatrical release date: 18 January 2008 (General release) Instead of whining about the parts that confused you, why don’t you talk about that parts that you enjoyed. Watching film isn’t like solving a math equation, unless it’s a suspense, “who dun it?” thriller. Relax it’s okay to be confused. Even people I talked to who weren’t absolutely taken with “There Will Be Blood” were at the very least absorbed from beginning to end. Sometimes the best things in life aren’t the obvious ones. sincerely, i can’t believe you have a job reviewing film. p.s. going for the populist, “no wonder people are heading for Shrek 4,” pitch lines is not winning you over any friends besides the anti-intellectual crowd. Comment by james from san francisco — February 24, 2008 @ 8:06 pm This is perhaps the worst piece of writing I’ve ever seen on popmatters. Has the author heard of metaphor? Of symbolism? If everybody could understand art, it would not be art. If the author ever needed confirmation that he is a senseless idiot, I recommend he read his own words. Transformers didn’t make a lick of sense either. Why doesn’t Michael Bay get an Oscar bid?
