I Am An Animal: The Story of Ingrid Newkirk and PETARegular airtime: Monday, 8pm ET (HBO) Cast: Ingrid Newkirk, Priscilla Feral, Alex Pacheco, Wayne PacelleUS release date: 19 November 2007 [19 November 2007] by Cynthia FuchsPopMatters Film and TV Editor WhirlwindIf the film doesn't precisely support the moral or emotional case made by PETA's Ingrid Newkirk, it does suggest that her work -- however righteous, extreme, or exasperating it appears -- will never be done.
Ok, then let’s talk about Ms. Newkirk. Her organization trivialized the holocaust by comparing it to animals being killing at slaughterhouses. She supports ALF (checks trail from her to participants in that extremist group). She claims that seeing eye dogs are unethical. She claims that having a pet is akin to having a slave. She’s a nutjob who uses disgusting tactics to instill her bullsh*t in children (look up ‘PETA Milk cards’ and ‘My Mommy Kills Animals comic book’). Comment by Cliff from Conway, AR — November 28, 2007 @ 8:22 am I do not recommend this movie, and I am suprised to see PopMatters give it such high marks. With my mind open to thinking about animal rights in a new light, I found the documentary reveals Newkirk and her media strategist to be quite naive, if not pathologically misguided. I’m submitting this post to encourage readers to gain information about animal activism from other sources than PETA or this movie. Comment by Matt from Burlington, VT — December 4, 2007 @ 5:14 pm

I don’t know much about Ingrid Newkirk. Ordinarily I would avoid this kind of story because of my opinions regarding PETA, but she sounds like an interesting person. Hopefully these comments won’t degenerate into attacks on PETA. The subject is Ms Newkirk.
