Like its subject, Mark Zwonitzer's Walt Whitman is grand and particular.

With the exception of “Drum Taps” I am not a big Whitman fan but this film—yes, sometimes overdone as Ms. Fuchs points out—led me to at least an appreciation of Whitman that I never had before.
