Handling It

Absorbing and sharp, Hard Times at Douglass High offers glimpses of students and teachers in various sorts of trouble.

Just wanted to say that I read Popmatters.com religiously and love every piece written by Ms. Fuchs.

Today was no different- I really enjoyed the article written about the upcoming HBO documentary and can’t wait to watch it tonight.

However, I do need to point out what I think is a mistake.  In the first graf it is mentioned that Frederick Douglass High School is based in Baltimore, then later it says it’s the first high school for Black students and is based in Prince George’s County.  There are schools named for Mr. Douglass in both Baltimore and in PG County- which one is this piece referring to?  I assume this piece is discussing the latter since it mentions 1922- but you might want to clear this up so that noone else is confused.

thanks.

Hi All. I recently just watched “hard times at Douglass High”. I have graduated High School about 7 years ago now. I was surprised to see how some students have a hard time just going to school. That was true for me as well…
Anyways all I wanted to comment on is this girl, Sharnae...the aspiring rapper, the talented one. I absolutely loved her in this documentery, and I really wish the film crew would have studied more on her...I was feelin’ her when she said she got that black eye...does anyone know what she’s up to now?? I would love to know, cause I think she is one person from that school that is going to do big things. Wish I knew if she was releasing any of her music…
Much Love-
Jah
