PopMatters Interviews Editor

For some inexplicable reason, Cheeseburger’s one of the more aptly-named bands out there right now. Sounding like a less-prim AC/DC, the group tears through its hard rock without ever considering how good it might actually sound, so it turns out great. The band doesn’t have a sense for parody, but it does have a playful smartness about its references, and its hard not to crack a smile when you’re misled with a song titled “Walkin’ After Midnight”, or when you spot that Kinks reference at the end of “Derby Day”. The band never shakes off its dirt and makes drunken partying actually sound like fun again. With some rough guitars and a secret sense of melody, Cheeseburger manages to put a nice spin on old references, with the tunes always focused on maximizing the fun factor.
