If you thought that the happy strumming of the British Invasion-inspired Wonders from the Tom Hanks film That Thing You Do died out in the 1960s, you’ll undoubtedly be surprised by Mark Bacino’s hooky tunesmithery. Bacino has the admirable attitude that he’s not doing his job unless you feel compelled to sing along with his songs, which you will, instantly. The cover art says it all—Pop Job is cheery, bubblegum pop with memorable melodies, lots of “oohs” and “aahs,” and guilty pleasure. There’s nothing deep going on, but don’t you need an antidote to drum’n’bass every now and then?
