Yukihiro Awaji is mostly known as yukihiro, the drummer for L’Arc-en-Ciel, the kick-ass Japanese band that has sold 30 million albums in its homeland. Last year, dude stepped out in this techno-metal project called acid android, and then California’s Tofu Records picked it up for distro in the US. It’s fun and loud and dance-y; tracks like “daze” combine industrial-disco touches with actual real live thrash guitars, others, like “egotistical ideal,” combine actual real live thrash guitars with industrial-disco touches. What you’re supposed to get from this is that a lot of the songs sound the same. The title track does some grunge-pop things, and “circles” is kind of a black-metal power ballad. Mostly it all sounds really cool though, especially “let’s dance.”
