Mush’s latest pick-up all the way from Tokyo is an absolute gem. 4 Bonjour’s Parties consists of a seven piece chamber pop orchestra whose only ambition is to bring you the most reverberated, cascading electronic bliss possible, running the brass and wind instrument gamut through a classic rock line-up and a laptop with an accordion, glockenspiel, and other multi-syllabic rarities presiding. It’s like Tortoise jamming with the defunct members of the Acid Mothers Temple. Vocally, they swap back and forth between male and female, English and Japanese, but it’s hard to care either way. Their funky, jazzy, quirky bossa nova, chill, IDM grooves are far too complex yet composed to not swallow you up whole the second you dip your toes in it. As such, Pigments Drift Down to the Brook is a breathtaking experience in ethereality and catharsis through open-minded, collaborative sound.
