Carlos Y Gaby

La Voz Sabia De Los Cosmos

(Alpha Pup)

US release date: 18 March 2008

by Filmore Mescalito Holmes

Carlos Niño has himself quite the career going. He’s half of Ninja Tune’s AmmonContact with Fabian Ammon Alston, a third of Hu Vibrational, the leader of the Build An Ark collective, and played a major role in the Dwight Trible supporting Life Force Trio, among several other collaborations. Up from that, he’s played the role of producer for the likes of Mia Doi Todd, Go: Organic Orchestra, and dozens more. Many of those projects have seen him work with gorgeous vocalist and apt keyboardist Gaby Hernandez.

Gaby and Carlos formed a bond over their work. They had been corresponding for several years as a result, trading bits of poetry and script, which would eventually make up the base of La Voz Sabia De Los Cosmos. Like the Emperor Norton released Logan’s Sanctuary, this album is the soundtrack to a sci-fi film that never happened, in this case the detail of a spaceship journey following great lovers in search of far out worlds. It’s Niño’s typical brand of cinematic world beats awash in obscure samples, nonsensical field recordings, and bloopy, retro-futuristic synths. All of this paints a vivid picture of otherworldly realms as intriguing and evocative as the sexually liberated individuals discovering them. This unique voyage will not mark the last time these two work together. Gawd speed.
