Prosumer & Murat TepeliSerenity(Ostgut Tonträger) US release date: 5 February 2008 UK release date: Available as import by Filmore Mescalito HolmesHouse is usually a quite predictable genre, and the debut collaboration between Achim “Prosumer” Brandenburg and fellow German producer Murat Tepeli is not an exception. It’s not a complete waste of time, though. The instrumentals here are flawlessly balanced and easily danceable examples of old school micro-house, the likes of which fills the vaults of Kompakt and Mutek. What drags Serenity down is it’s choked to death with trite “baby, love, baby / where did we go wrong / I ain’t gonna leave you” style lyrics, mostly delivered by Prosumer himself or one Elif Biçer. Like the majority of bad DJ vocals, they seem forced, immature, and underdeveloped. Real love shouldn’t be so boring and sexless. It comes off uninspired, which is a shame because the tunes are thoroughly solid. You have to ask yourself what would AFX do?
