ShareKathryn Bigelo is the first female director to win best film and best director at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards. Her superb film The Hurt Locker scored six awards out of eight nominations, shutting Avatar out of the big awards. Avatar won the biggies at the Golden Globes, but the Brits seemed to prefer the more serious fare on offer in the Iraq Qar themed film. We certainly concur with the BAFTA choices as seen in our Best Films of 2009 feature.
