German producer Shantel has made his name as a remixer of Balkan music, beginning his career in Frankfurt working with electronic sounds, but gradually expanding into traditional Balkan gypsy sounds. The music is back there in his bloodlines with a set of grandparents originally from Bukovina. Shantel’s latest album Planet Paprika came out last year and “Authentic” is the new video from that release. Now the Authentic EP is being released on 9 April.
Shantel has bold ambitions with his cross-cultural musical melting pot: “You want anarchy and romance? You want to be catapulted out of the here and now with all its problems and worries? So do we – and we’re happy to take you with us to a new dimension. We come from different horizons, from different countries. We have learned a lot on our travels and we’d like to give some of that back.”
