Oscar Nominees:
Julie Christie ... McCabe and Mrs. Miller
Jane Fonda ... Klute
Glenda Jackson ... Sunday Bloody Sunday
Vanessa Redgrave ... Mary Queen of Scots
Janet Suzman ... Nicholas and Alexandra
Mazur Winner:
Jenny Agutter ... Walkabout
Julie Christie ... McCabe & Mrs. Miller
Glenda Jackson ... Sunday, Bloody Sunday
Vanessa Redgrave … The Devils & Mary Queen of Scots
Kitty Winn … The Panic in Needle Park
Oscar Winner: Jane Fonda, for her electrifying turn as a call girl stalked by a killer in the classic thriller Klute.
Mazur Winner: Tough call in a field that does not deviate too much from the actual nominees slate. A case could be made for any of these nominees winning the top honors, but I like Vanessa Redgrave’s display of versatility this year as the regal, famed Scottish leader Mary juxtaposed with her searing turn as a deformed, neurotic, sex-obsessed nun in Ken Russell’s incendiary envisioning of Aldous Huxley’s The Devils of Loudun. Her two roles give her a slight edge over her competition this year.
