ShareI have a new essay up at the New Inquiry that was inspired by a few stray quotes in the Žižek piece in the most recent New Left Review. The basic idea is that to keep open the possibility of difficulty in a culture that cherishes convenience, we need to seize upon a model of love that knows itself by its nuisances. Instead of universalized love for homogenized everything, a thorny, contingent love for a specific other that reminds us how it it’s worthwhile to persevere, to do something other than pursue serial pleasure in digital media.
Also, a reminder. I am still making a concerted effort to make the @marginalutility Twitter feed useful. I have been using it to link to stuff I have written or things I thought were interesting, and occasionally I throw in some cryptic aphorisms. Still trying to “find my voice” on Twitter, if that metaphor makes sense for something so clipped and telegraphic.
Also reached 200 posts on my Hipster Runoff Exegesis project. Wondering if I should go on with it.
