Call for Papers: PopMatters Celebrates The Jam in Massive Special Section

SSLYBY, Telekinesis Cover Old Chicago Power Pop Act, Green

Thursday, Oct 21, 2010
Green, a overlooked but wonderful Chicago power pop act from the '80s, gets a nod from Someone Still Love You Boris Yeltsin and tour mates Telekinesis.

Green was a power pop band who put out a series of records in the ‘80s and ‘90s that was heavy on jangle heavy on rock and heavy on hook. The songs were really, really good but unfortunately the production sometimes lagged. They got very far beyond a few very dedicated fans. In the last few years their records are being rediscovered due to CD reissues on their own label, Gangreen Records.

Part of that rediscovery is this cover by Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin and Telekinesis. “Gotta Get a Record Out” is a joyful celebration o ambition, a rousing invitation: “kids, get hip to this sound”. The two bands collaborate and put out a fresh take on a fun record.

For comparison’s sake and to give a taste of “Green”, here is the original from Green’s MySpace page.
