After the success of original programs like Mad Men and Breaking Bad, AMC is trying its hand at a new television genre; horror. Their newest program, The Walking Dead, centers around motley band of humans, the only survivors after an apocalypse that has left the world ridden with zombies. We follow this group, lead by county sheriff Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), through the events following the apocalypse as they continue their fight to survive. AMC describes the show as “an epic, edge of your seat drama where personal struggles are magnified against a back drop of moment-to-moment survival.”
The show, which will premiere with a 90-minute episode Halloween night (Oct. 31, 10 EST/9 CST), is based on the popular comic book series by Robert Kirkman and is not only a great departure from the character driven dramas on AMC, but from shows across the channels. Yet, as vampire everything becomes more popular it was only a matter of time until other scary movie staples got their moments on the small screen and if AMC has proven anything, it’s that they know a good show when they see one.
