Despite the ticketing controversy surrounding LCD Soundsystem’s farewell series of shows, James Murphy et al have, if nothing else, committed themselves to a musical feat of strength. Playing for over three continuous hours Wednesday night, their third in a row at Terminal 5, the dance orchestra was relentless, precise, casual, and focused. Under the direction of Maestro Murphy, LCD seemed to perform nearly its entire catalogue, utilizing up to 16 musicians at one point, a small chorus, as well as LCD members past and present. Though the setlist generally followed previous nights’, “North American Scum” and “Too Much Love” were welcome additions while “All My Friends” and “Yeah” received resounding reactions. “Us v Them” was enhanced by a five-piece brass section, with guitarist Al Doyle (of Hot Chip) chiming in on horn. Opener Shit Robot, whose light up headpiece and beats were well received, even joined in for one song towards the end. Murphy must have something incredible planned for Saturday’s finale at the Garden as Wednesday’s show already seemed like the penultimate ending to an incredible tenure.
