Moving Pixels Podcast: Stepping Forward into 'Portal 2'

Time to reconsider our roles as lab rats.

A few weeks ago the Moving Pixels podcast crew revisited 2007’s Portal in anticipation of the impending release of its sequel.


Well, the sequel has arrived, so we have gotten together once again to consider how well the follow up works in terms of its extended narrative and its various gameplay tweaks.

By fulfilling the expected obligations of a 1950s “wife", Caroline sounds as if she might as well be married to Johnson, and after all, given Johnson's alignment with American exceptionalism and what it can achieve through technology, he is the “science” that she has married herself to.

While GLaDOS may have taken on the role of the passive-aggressive mother especially during the closing moments of Portal, the nature of the antagonism present in feminine interpersonal conflict is heightened here in some more traditionally cruel ways.
