The Creem Wars continue

The legacy of one of the finest rock mags ever is still being battled out, literally and figuratively.  This New York Observer article has news of dust-up between two factions, including publication of a recent anthology of articles.  As a former writer there said, since it’s debatable at best if the rights have been cleared with the individual writers (they probably haven’t actually), that could be grounds for suit in addition to the other court activity that’s swirling around the magazine.  Also note comments from Connie Kramer (widow of founder Barry Kramer) and Dave Marsh at the bottom of the article.

Addendum to story:

Meanwhile, in an adjacent building, another battle was brewing. It was the Trouser Press War! In this epic battle, Ira Robbins, Jim Green, Dave Schulps, Jon Young and Scott Isler once again engaged in a battle of the minds to determine who was the best rock band ever. Was it the “Sell Out"-era Who or the “Quadrophenia"-era Who.

Luckily, there were no casualties, since this war has been waged on a friendly scale on a regular basis for over 30 years now. Karen Rose’s vote as cast in abstentia, for all eternity, for Jeff Beck.

Oh goodie!  We’ll let Dave Marsh referee that match.  The winner will get an autographed copy of “Scoop III and IV.” The loser will have to pay a 30-year bar tab from Keith Moon.
