If you’ve ever wanted to know what the Sonics would have sounded like had they come from Mexico City rather than Tacoma, Los Explosivos are the band for you. Seemingly conceived in a backyard lab to be the ultimate support act the next time the Hives rock South America, Los Explosivos make filthy, unreconstructed proto-punk noises and squelches. Lest anyone be unsure where the band comes from, the quartet bites down on a cover of “Louie, Louie” in Spanish and kicks the tempo up a notch. The band’s own songs rock just as hard, specifically the thrilling opener “Se Apago”, which sets the tone and does not let up. There are no ballads, just fuzzy blasts full of well timed “aw yeahs” punctuating the record like station identifications. If that’s not doing it for you, three members of the band sport unruly afros and the other is a singing drummer. Esta chevre!
