By Ron Hart10 ft. Ganja Plant, the celebrated dub-wise side project of upstate New York reggae heroes John Brown’s Body, returns with Bush Rock, its fifth album with the New York City-based ROIR label and first release in five years. The band continues to create some of the truest, sincerest dirt-floor dub-reggae this side of the Trojan and Island archives. This new 11-track platter features guest vocalist Kyle McDonald of the San Diego Sublime affiliates Slightly Stoopid, whose smooth singing adds a real Jacob Miller-era Inner Circle vibe to four tracks here, most notably the stony title cut and the soulful “Got to be a Soldier”. Praise Jah for the return of this celebrated but vastly underrated ragga unit. 30 September 2009 |
