N-Type

Rinse: 09

(Rinse FM)

US release date: 4 August 2009

UK release date: 10 August 2009

By John Bergstrom

British DJ N-Type is one of the primary figures behind the ever-growing, ever-changing electronic music style known as dubstep. Rinse:09 is a typical representation of his mixing style, and with 34 tracks crammed onto a single disc, it’s a rapid-fire assault, building gradually from slow-moving, sub-bass-heavy reggae to full-on, head-spinning mayhem. Along the way there’s drum’n'bass, dub, dancehall, grime, and even a bit of industrial. The signature spinning-hubcap synth effects become faster and ever more intense. Depending on your state of mind, it’s enough to make you either raise your arms in ecstasy or make for the nearest padded cell. Don’t say you weren’t warned.
