ShareChicago trio's angular EP
Chicago-based trio the Interiors offer a 5-song EP entitled Teeth, appropriately titled as the songs bristle with staccato rhythms, biting lyrics, and little room for tenderness. Opener “No Maps” features bouncy, jouncy guitar and bass, with stuttering percussion underneath. Chase Duncan’s vocals are reminiscent of a Dixie-style Graham Parker, chewing his vowels on such lines as “Baby, there are no maps where we’re going / ‘Cause those that went there before us / They did not come back alive”. The other songs follow the lead of the first, with “I Will Wait for You” built around a pulsating guitar line. “I will pick a fight I’ll lose / While I wait for you” pretty much sums up the sentiment. The tone changes in closer “Sam’s Holiday”, a slow tune that tells a more affecting, less barbed story, set to chiming guitars. Teeth is an intriguing set that suggests much is possible from this band in the future. Keep them on your radar.
