Chiddy Bang

Opposite of Adults EP

(EMI; US: 20 Apr 2010; UK: 21 Feb 2010)

The Opposite of Adults EP is the opposite of fun.

If you’ve heard the cheeky, fun loving, playground hip-pop of the Chiddy Bang’s “Opposite of Adults”, you know the track works because it doesn’t take itself seriously. It’s almost as if the duo never expected it to be heard, but what else does this band have to say? As it turns out, not a lot. From the clumsy, rolling synths sounds of “Chiddy Freestyle”, the fun is gone. Rapper Chiddy claims his “controversy sells”, but the track drags at a mere 2:12, which is, admittedly, quite an achievement in itself. “Sooner or Later” showcases a bit more spunk, but it’s all in the sharp synths and slick snare; Chiddy sucks the life out of it with his dull, faux-inspirational flow. The hazy synthesizer lines of “Dream Chasin’” suffer a similar fate. Chiddy Bang came across as inventive and youthful at first, but on the Opposite of Adults EP, struggles to keep a steady pulse.

Twenty-three, living in London, making my own (pop) music (www.myspace.com/joecopplestone). I am fascinated by pop music, but am also fond of dreamwave, indiepop, melodic metal, euphoric dance and commercial/not-so-commercial house music. Amongst other genres.
