This may be one of the better late ‘60s country albums to ever come out of Nashville. Pretty amazing when you consider that Paul Brady is based in Dublin, Ireland and Hooba Dooba is newer than yesterday’s bread. Among those who have covered Brady are Brookes & Dunn, Santana, and Bonnie Raitt. In fact, Brady offers his reading of “Luck of the Draw”, the track that Raitt picked up on over 20 years ago and one of the many he’s written in over 40 years in the music business that call attention to his sense of craft and ability to stare down the human condition and report back to us with unflinching accuracy. This probably isn’t the kind of album that will find a wide audience outside of singer-songwriters and Brady loyalists but every singer-songwriter should have this album in their collection as Brady is one of the true masters of his time.
