Clever, really

Banded together by former Cloud Room men Dave Horowitz and Steve Milton, Lavalier’s self-titled EP features eight songs that demonstrate a band slouching its way toward a cohesive style. Drawing on heavy doses of keyboards (including accordion––keytar, natch) the New York City-based outfit calls upon the psychedelic and lo-fi muses throughout. Sadly, most of the memorable moments of Lavalier are saved for the song titles, whether the opening “Santa Claus Ain’t Comin’”, “Mausoleum Key Party” or “Twilight Lovebite”. There are moments there and here when it seems like the fellas might get it together and do something amazing, but those dreams have yet to come to fruition.
