Get comfy
Virginia-based singer-songwriter Meredith Bragg’s fourth release dashes any hopes one might have of simply labeling Bragg as a chamber-pop artist or, in fact, finding any tag that might easily isolate the vastly gifted musician. Opening with the spacey, dance-y “Second Golden Age” and closing a merciful 30-some minutes later with the gentle “Waltz No.3”, Nest is laced with gems, such as the eerie “Arrowstock”, arena-ready throb rock (think: Arcade Fire) of “Birds Of North America” and the elegant simplicity of “Next Time”. Bragg’s best work is still ahead of him, though with each successive release he makes impressive strides toward perfecting his unique vision.
