Another fruitful collective of Toronto-based musicians, Deloro’s self-titled debut LP is laden with ramshackle bluesy alt-country that will serve rainy days and last calls everywhere. The album grows slowly with tales of bourbon-soaked agony; certain tracks require more patience, but others, including “Traveling Man” and “No Fun” will have listeners strangely eager to join in the agony.

At times calling to mind a grittier Cowboy Junkies, Deloro’s ability to trade vocals only encourages the spirit of collective which seems to drive this band. It’s a heart-warming ethos, heard rather genuinely on a tracka like “Years”. They’ve all got sad tales to tell. And where those tales may not have worked in the musicians’ other outfits, they contain a desolate passion that cannot be overlooked here. By refusing to ignore these tales of pain which we all endure, Deloro has produced what will surely be a surprising but also memorable release.
