The Express: The Express

First cousins Liam Corcoran (Two Hour Traffic) and Kinley Dowling (Hey Rosetta!) hatched the plot to make this record while on a 2009 joint tour with their respective bands. The result is a quiet set that features pedal steel, banjo, and a general laid-back vibe. The result is also a lower-middling affair that lacks a real sense of cohesion and could have probably used someone towering over the sessions and making important editorial decisions. Dowling’s voice is pretty, especially on “Prairie Moonlight” and “Dark Days In Montreal”, but her songs never reach their full potential. Corcoran is a better vocalist and pedal steel player than he is a writer, though the opening “Nobody Knows”, is arguably the strongest thing here.
