Alice Peacock, a Minnesota minister’s daughter and Danny Myrick, a Mississippi preacher’s son, share a kinship that is as musically similar as it is familial. With both feet firmly planted in the sounds of country traditionalism and modern folk, the duo have put together a 10 song collection that runs that gamut of emotion and sentiment.  There are airs of upbeat affirmation: “What’s Life About”, coffeehouse confessional honesty: “If You Wanna Know”, front-page rumination: “Isn’t It Amazing”, and rollicking heartland rock: “Distant Thunder”.  The songs echo a little bit of everything, from early John Cougar to ‘90’s Sheryl Crow to your pick of a “hat” country artist of the week. These tunes would fit well into the context of a modern country radio, Sirius/XM’s Outlaw Country station, or even an episode of Grey’s Anatomy. The fact that both of these artists have traversed these similar landscapes previously and have made a nifty career out of authoring some of today’s big country hits should only add credence to their collaboration. Like a lot of those current country hits, the tunes pass by pleasantly enough, but one can’t help but wish for a little more punch to the sound here and there. Together, the pair seems to have the capacity for a bit more country rock thump than what the overall product reveals.
