ShareThe latest in a line of remix projects from Australian label Hidden Shoal Recordings, this seven-song offering brings together tracks from City of Satellite’s debut EP The Spook and its full-length Machine Is My Animal. The dreampop-cum-shoegaze collective gets the old knob twiddle from Manual, Syntaks, Tim Koch, Slow Dancing Society, Jatun, Tin Manzano, and M-13. Manzano’s treatment of “Machine Is My Animal” stands as one of the most successful, while “Victor! Burn City Lights” (remixed by Syntaks) is one of the most lifeless. Slow Dance Society’s take on “Moon in the Sea” is eerie and charming, feeling closer to something that would have come down the line circa 1991 than today (that’s a compliment) but much of the rest here is not so much bad as it is unremarkable.
