Heavy Times

Jacker

(Hozac; US: 25 Oct 2011; UK: Import)

You have to appreciate a band that totally understands their aesthetic. Heavy Times, you see, are not for the faint of heart. Their punishing brand of trashy garage is not to be taken lightly. Sure, on tracks like “Future City”, where the band spreads their wings with a mod-ish, groovy charm, they let their foot off the pedal. But even then, it’s no less intoxicating.

For the most part, Jacker is the record you’ll reach for when it comes time to blow off steam. Catastrophic break-up? Throw your elbows around with the vehement title track. Trying to stop however, will take a little more effort. There’s such a pounding efficiency to the twelve tracks that by record’s end, not only will you have likely forgotten what went down in the first place, you’ll also have attracted the disenfranchised from surrounding neighborhoods.
