120 Days

120 Days II

(Splendour; US: 6 Mar 2012; UK: 6 Mar 2012)

120 Days follow-up their respected debut with slight improvements.

120 Days II has a brief running time but it fills it with a unified vision. Unfortunately, there’s not too much to make that vision stand out. It also struggles with an over-reliance on the EDM genre, which provides a limited palette. However, when the band strays from that and lets itself dip into more ambient territory, it seems to take on new life. This is especially evident on “Sleepless Nights #4”, which wouldn’t be out of place on a Swans album. In a best case scenario, 120 Days II will act as a stepping stone for 120 Days that guides them to more experimentation instead of tinkering with the same formulas. It’s not difficult to imagine them making a classic album somewhere down the road.

Born, raised, and living in the heart of Wisconsin, Steven spends his time toiling away at various entertainment projects whenever the opportunity crosses his path. Putting a lot of time into incessantly writing about entertainment, creating his own, consuming music and music trivia at an alarming rate, and shooting still or moving film at nearly every presented chance has led him here. He frequently contributes reviews and interviews to Playground Misnomer, which can be accessed here: http://www.playgroundmisnomer.com.

Though they're national-award winners in Norway, and presumably professionals, 120 Days seemed surprised/insulted by Philly's inattention. What did they expect, us awaiting their arrival with bated breath?
