A strange genre-defying album that cements Hecuba's reputation as dark pop experimentalists.

Once Hecuba entered the studio to record Modern they didn’t leave until it was finished. It’s a loose concept album about separation and togetherness. Each entry on the album is an abstract pop-influenced piece that unfolds and becomes increasingly darkly seductive as it progresses, working its way into the listener’s mind and taking over. Of all the feelings and sensibilities the band evokes within their music, they’re most effective at impending doom and the dread that ties in with it. Fortunately, Hecuba is fully aware of this and exploit it completely. Modern gets darker as it goes on and in doing so becomes more fascinating as well. While not everything on Modern works and it occasionally trips over itself in certain practices, it does prove extremely memorable, which is significantly more than a lot of albums today can manage.
