Wind Up Radio Sessions

Bird Eyes

(No Map; US: 22 May 2012; UK: 22 May 2012)

A Debut Worth Getting Excited About

Wind Up Radio Sessions’ Bird on a Wire is a record filled with heartfelt folk-rock style songs and it never wavers in quality. Opening track “Little Bird” sets the template for most of what follows: excellent songwriting, rustic arrangements, and an open plains atmosphere. While Bird Eyes does manage to succeed in throwing in an unexpected 1980’s new wave influence every now and again, for the most part it’s a relatively straight-forward and honest record. The majority of the songs on Bird Eyes move elegantly through mid-tempo patterns and a variety of melodic hooks and hit home hard. A highlight among these is “Caroline’s Dress”, which showcases the bands penchant for an Americana-style twang in outstanding guitar parts that bring the Drive-By Truckers to mind as much as the Band. This is a very strong follow-up effort from a band dead-set on establishing their sound and their name.

Born, raised, and living in the heart of Wisconsin, Steven spends his time toiling away at various entertainment projects whenever the opportunity crosses his path. Putting a lot of time into incessantly writing about entertainment, creating his own, consuming music and music trivia at an alarming rate, and shooting still or moving film at nearly every presented chance has led him here.
