Some may view it as a guilty pleasure, but I absolutely love this collection of late ‘60s, early ‘70s music. Assembled by Nick Soloman (the Bevis Frond), this set hearkens back to a time when British session cats discovered hip rock elements, such as sitars. This results in the odd pairing of instrumental middle-of-the-road music, and good old rock & roll. Many of these tunes are unrecognizable. But The Shock Absorbers’ “It’s Your Thing” turns a funk favorite into a fuzzed out organ/electric guitar drenched instrumental workout. This is the kind of CD you can just picture Mike Meyers grooving to during one of his Austin Powers movies.
