Makeout City sounds like the title of an album from the latest flavor-of-the-month emo band but instead is a wonderfully rich album of timeless sounding power pop from Adam Price and his band, Hundred Air. Both in bio and in sound, Hundred Air references and recalls bands like The Beatles and The Shins. The presence of gems like “Feet Don’t Fail Me Now” and “When the Man Calls, You Go” show that while Price and co. may not quite have the stuff of their influences, Makeout City is the type of bright and buoyant album which will please fans of such groups. Price’s songwriting places a high premium on the ability to craft an infectious melody; other sublimely catchy tracks include “Don’t Look in My Window” and the shuffling “All the Lights Are On.” This is a delightful record that shouldn’t be missed by anyone who truly values songcraft, quality production and the type of melodies that get stuck in your brain and don’t leave for days.
