With sandpaper lead vocals—which sound a little like Rod Stewart at times—Kentucky’s Digby mixes a roots rock feel with sound melodic-pop instincts. “Knocking at Your Door”, with its shimmering electric guitar, expresses one man’s seemingly eternal longing for another woman via the line, “I’m forever knocking at your door.” Then with “Bad Swing”, the group mirrors The Black Crowes’ gentler side. Guitars provide the primary instrumental backing of What’s Not Plastic?, although piano figures prominently in “How Long”. Both “Knocking at Your Door” and “How Long” deal impatiently with trying to be patient, making it a small running theme on an equally small EP that lasts only five songs.
