The Drawbacks

Slightly Less Vague

(Choco Hearts)

US release date: 15 January 2008

by Dan MacIntosh

The track that grabs you by the throat and won’t let you go on The Drawbacks’ Slightly Less Vague CD is “Adrenaline”. Like the substance it’s named after, this quickly strummed guitar number hearkens back to The Buzzcocks, but also brings the more modern day Franz Ferdinand to mind. And while that song is the clear highlight, much of the rest of this CD is also fine. It’s melodic, from beginning to end, well sung and played, and an overall delight. And even though “Adrenaline” is the best sounding track, opener “Couch Buddies” has the best title. I’m not exactly sure what it means; but I like it just the same.
