ShareBionico is titled for the musicians’ love of the Six Million Dollar Man. In “Bionic Boogooloo” they rip joyfully into the show’s title theme and it is glorious—big and bold, with huge trumpets and drums and a strutting, rolling piano. The singer twirls his ass and shouts “Hey!” and everybody plays as if they’ve been rampantly electrified. These large Latin American bands can sometimes feel as if they’re trying to intimidate you with sheer energy, but here the retro hi-tek 1970s zooms and spangles give the salsa-plena-mambo-etc songs a touch of wide-eyed wonder—it’s as if the musicians are saying, listen, we’re with you, we’re fans as well. Now let’s go crazy. Every piece of pop culture wishes it had an audience this charismatic, this talented, this purely good.
