Toronto’s Eric Corne’s release, Kid Dynamite and the Common Man features an array of who’s who in the LA rock scene. Some of the musicians who make an appearance include Nick Urata (DeVotchKa), Richie Hayward (Little Feat, Eric Clapton), Doug Pettibone (Lucinda Williams) and Stephen Hodges (Tom Waits, Mavis Staples) among many others.

Corne, as a political science major in college, allows this disc to act as his response to world events after 9/11. The album examines many different sounds with a surprisingly Americana aura. The Canuck’s authentic grasp of the American flavor comes across with Hawaiian twang (“I Know a Girl”), some of the best moments in jam rock (“Evil Men”) with a Beatles and Allman Brothers mashing, a Tom Petty-(or early REM)-seared harmonica and organ anthem rocker (“Dead End”). With executive production by Corne’s mentor Dusty Wakeman (Dwight Yoakam, Lucinda Williams), the disc may very well be the first step toward reaching Corne’s dream of a record label akin to Stax or Motown.
