Audrye Sessions

Audrye Sessions

(Black Seal)

US release date: 10 October 2008

By Jason MacNeil

Falling somewhere between the Fray and Coldplay, Audrye Sessions has a lot more pop than the former but not quite as much as the latter. The track “Turns Me Off” takes a while to get flowing but comes up smelling like daisies by verse two. Here Audrye Sessions vocalist/guitarist Ryan Karazija even sounds a bit like U2’s Bono to boot. Meanwhile the closer on this four-song EP is a gentle, tender “New Year’s Day” (and no, not the U2 cover) with sweet vocals by Karazija this time in the vein of Radiohead’s Thom Yorke circa “Fake Plastic Trees”. Toss in a very stellar, solid and meandering number entitled “Awake” and you hope there are far more sessions in the works for this group.
