Just as the Darkness were boldly striding, leotard-clad out of the shadows and onto the London pub circuit, on the other side of the Atlantic ‘80s glam rockers Roxx Gang were putting away their hairspray and slowly morphing into a rowdy rock ‘n’ roots bar band called the Mojo Gurus. Almost nine years later, the Darkness have imploded, while the Florida-based quartet, led by leader of the pack Kevin Steele, swagger into the local Pro Star recording studios to cut the follow-up to 2005’s acclaimed Shakin’ in the Barn. 

Let’s Get Lit With ... the Mojo Gurus is an invitation to party if ever there was one.  The record mixes novelty country songs about drinking (“Let’s Get Lit”, “Better of the Bottle”), gritty-Southern-rock-meets-glam foot-stompers like “Bucket O’ Blood” and “(Just) A Couple of Kicks” and even a little surf rock (“Stingray”) to great effect.  Elsewhere, “Rebelene” finds Steele duck-walkin’ up to the bar for a double-shot of Berry, while the rockabilly closer “Party Doll” brings to mind genre pioneer Buddy Knox (without covering his hit of the same name). This is straight-from-the-source rock ‘n’ roll—unapologetic and one hell of a lotta fun.
