Mothlite

The Flax of Reverie

(Southern)

US release date: 16 June 2008

By Ron Hart

England and Finland might not make the most obvious bedfellows. However as Mothlite, the duo of London-based musician Daniel O’Sullivan and Finnish engineer Antti Uusimaki create the kind of dark, acoustic atmospheres that goes as swimmingly together as a dish of bangers and mash accompanied by a nice pint of Karhu lager. Their debut, The Flax of Reverie, employs the sounds of Harvest-era black country folk with the slightest hint of the kind of black doom metal omnipresent in Uusimaki’s neck of the EU to create a wholly unique hybrid that could very well appeal to John Martyn and Unholy fans alike.
