Aaron Robinson was formerly the front man for a group called Imaginary Baseball League—a catchy little indie outfit out of Nashville, Tennessee.  His first solo effort We Are Racing Ghosts is full of inspirational, well-intentioned pop songs of the singer-songwriter variety. There are shades of Springsteen, Jeff Tweedy, and (ugh) Matt Pond on this disc. Robinson’s music occasionally veers into the college/alt-rock territory – which is good or bad, depending upon your perspective – but Robinson is genuine. There is even a sense of humility on this record. “Got a lot of things I’d like to change,” he sings, “but there are a lot of notes outside my range.” With just the right amount of effort, this promising songwriter may just be able to muster up the notes he needs to achieve what he’s capable of. We’ll just have to wait and see.
