Adrianne

Sweet Mistake

(Wheat Recording Company; US: 2006)

You may have heard Adrianne’s song in the Courtney Cox series

Friends, er, I mean Dirt. Or in the Matthew Perry series Friends, er, Studio 60 dammit! But she fortunately has more to offer than just snippets that fit well into television dramas. Resembling the likes of Billie Myers, Dido and a roots-based Sarah McLachlan, this fine singer-songwriter creates sweet music that has no mistakes judging by the gleaming “Disarray” that is anything but overproduced. Her voice is sweet but strong throughout most of the material, whether it is the U2-tinted “Calling It Easy” or the radio-friendly pop rock that feeds “Shooting Star”. Adrianne also shows another side of her craft with the thoughtful, mid-tempo title track that shows more of her pipes while making the album at its most melancholy during the sparse, piano-driven “Symmetry”. Not everything she touches turns to gold though, with “Leavin’ Alone” being a song that should have been left alone from the track listing. But a track like “Shout It Out” is a no-nonsense pop rock tune that is well worth repeated listens. And check out the unique take on Violent Femmes’ “Blister in the Sun”.
