Deeply rooted in German krautrock and experimental electronica, Brooklyn’s Alex Delivery creates sonic melodies and space-age beats that are so sublime I was surprised to find out they come right from my own backyard (BK, represent!). There are only six selections on this effort, but you wouldn’t realize that unless you’re paying close attention. Three of the album’s mostly instrumental songs stretch well over the nine minute mark. During these sonic excursions, the band makes seamless progressions from experimental indie pop into something you might hear in a German techno club. The group does use vocals, sparingly, but the band seems to thrive when they stretch out the melodies—letting them breathe to the point where they could go on forever, and you wouldn’t mind. “Komad” starts out with eccentric instrumentation and male/female vocal harmonies before taking a lengthy excursion into spacey soundscapes and electronic dance fusion. “Milan” uses a similar tactic, while offering a completely different sound. The song offers an ambient atmosphere of field sounds and plucking strings. Star Destroyer offers plenty of surprises and pleasant digressions; sort of like a more coherent Fiery Furnaces.
